Person-centred therapy, or client-centred therapy, is a type of psychotherapy that recognises the client as being the expert in what issues they experience, what problems feel important to explore and in what direction they want to move in.
As your counsellor I support you to uncover and understand the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be causing you discomfort or distress. You have an innate capacity for self-awareness and personal growth. My aim is to make you feel heard and understood, bring the subconscious into consciousness, allowing you to focus on maximising your ability to find solutions during the psychotherapeutic process, which encourages positive change within yourself.
Person-centred therapy is rooted in the belief that you have all the answers from within to thrive and that we all contain untapped potential. This approach helps you reconnect with your values and sense of self-worth, enabling you to find your way to move forward.
The three core conditions of person-centred therapy are genuineness
and congruence, empathetic understanding and unconditional positive regard.
In being genuine and congruent I am open and honest about my thoughts and feelings and, by doing so, I encourage you to do the same. This helps to build a trusting relationship and successful working partnership.
Empathy is the true understanding and sharing of feelings between two people. I use empathetic understanding to get to know who you are - the way your experiences shape your life, your point of view of the world, your sense of self, and your relationship to the people in your life. The main goal of empathetic understanding is to sit alongside you and ensure that you feel completely understood in everything you say and feel.
Unconditional positive regard is total acceptance. This means that I always completely accept and support you. By being completely present, taking the time to fully listen and understand you, I hope to validate what you are feeling and offer reassurance.
Psychodynamic therapy helps you understand how your past experiences, unconscious mind and impulses shape your current feelings and behaviour. We build an accepting and trusting relationship that encourages you to talk freely and openly about your past. This can help you understand what you're feeling now, why you behave in a certain way, and how this affects your relationships.
Psychodynamic therapy aims to create fundamental change in your emotional development by helping you understand and resolve your problems by increasing your awareness of your inner self and how this can influence your relationships.
CBT aims to help you find new ways to behave by changing negative thought patterns. Sessions focus on exploring and identifying the negative thoughts, where they may have come from, and developing methods to reframe these thoughts to change behaviours. We focus on your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs and how they affect your actions and feelings.
CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that works on the concept that our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are all interconnected. CBT teaches you how to improve your negative patterns by changing how you think, behave, and feel.

Hypnosis creates an altered state of consciousness which allows positive change in your mental, emotional or physical being.
During your initial consultation we will work together to identify your issues and goals for hypnotherapy, and spend time getting to know what auditory, visual or perceptual cues and suggestions will be most effective in connecting with your subconscious mind and effecting change.
Hypnosis usually requires 2-4 sessions.

I talk you through the counselling process and ask you questions to gain insight into the issues you are facing. It’s a great opportunity to ask me any questions or raise any concerns that you have.
If you want to work collaboratively with me, we can book your first session. I encourage you to commit to at least 4 to 6 sessions, but these can be booked on a rolling basis. Sessions are usually weekly at the same time and day.
