I’m Emma Robertson, a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor trained in Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also a trained hypnotherapist and can offer this as part of your counselling or a separate service. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and the National Hypnotherapy Society.
I’ve always had a passion and interest in the human psyche. I have a BSc Psychology, a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Professional Diploma in Hypnotherapy. I’m also a trained Designated Safeguard Lead and hold an enhanced disclosure check. I have worked for a number of years in a secondary school supporting children and young people 11-18 years old. Alongside this, I have worked for a charitable counselling agency supporting adults with wide-ranging presenting issues and difficulties.
Taking a pluralistic approach, I focus on working collaboratively with you to agree which psychotherapeutic modalities feel right to you and will be most effective during therapy. A person-centred approach is at the heart of everything I do within counselling, and building a strong working relationship with you is key to maximising success - a good relationship and trust between you and your counsellor is essential for effective therapy.
As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, it feels like such a privilege to be invited into a clients’ inner world, and it is so rewarding to see my clients transform and make positive changes, leaving therapy with the tools needed so they begin to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

I talk you through the counselling process and ask you questions to gain insight into the issues you are facing. It’s a great opportunity to ask me any questions or raise any concerns that you have.
If you want to work collaboratively with me, we can book your first session. I encourage you to commit to at least 4 to 6 sessions, but these can be booked on a rolling basis. Sessions are usually weekly at the same time and day.
